The BMW Club's Boreen Runs have always been centered around areas of amazing natural beauty, over the years the run
has brought participants through some of the most scenic areas in Ireland. While riders can expect to be in the saddle for
a lot of both days apart from Lunch there are also short breaks either at scenic areas with toilet facilities or near a cafe
for a fast cuppa, these comforts stops will allow you to strech your legs. The Irish Boreen Run is not an Off-Road run, it uses
the roads less travelled and all these roads are tarmac. The roads are easily seen as "yellow roads" on Ordinance Survey
(Discovery Series) Maps as they meander through the Irish countryside.
Definition of Boreen (from the Irish word bóithrín, meaning a small road) is an Irish term for a narrow, rough, rural road.
It is also occasionally used in names of narrow country roads with a strip of grass running through the middle of it.
The 2012 Boreen run is being held this year in County Sligo and County Leitrim and is being led by TJ McHale
